Their fateful romantic relationship from 1950 to 1955 was recorded in hundreds of letters. His paintings of Christine Lavant are among Werner Berg’s chief works and will be shown alongside numerous oil paintings and woodcuts, as well as documents and photographs pertaining to the poet’s life in this exhibition, while the times and surroundings of this essentially impossible love form the thematic focus. This unique overview, including significant loans from public and private collections, refocuses the perception of both artists’ respective oeuvres and provides insight into the dreams and hopes, of this remarkable connection between two extraordinary people.

HORTENSIA – THE BREATH OF BRONZE

Graz-based sculptor Hortensia lets form take centre-stage in the museum’s sculpture garden. She creates classical figurative pieces that are characterised by reduction and austerity, occasional archaism, absolute technical assurance, and artistic proficiency.
